Fostering Change: A Night in Support of Youth in Care

Youth in Care Canada is hosting Fostering Change on Sunday, August 20th at the Rideau Carleton Raceway. Their objective is to help increase awareness about issues affecting youth in care and highlight the importance of continuing efforts to further national youth in care networks across Canada. Their goal is to raise $5,000 so that their organization can continue to provide support for youth in and from care via research, policy development, training, and continued development of community-level and provincial-level Canadian youth in care networks.

Canada Day Fireworks – Saturday, July 1

Last year was the 2nd year in a row the Riverside South and Findlay Creek Community Associations put on a professional fireworks display with spectacular results. This year, we’ve gone all out and doubled the fireworks display in honour of Canada’s 150th birthday. Northstar Fireworks will be back again this year showcasing their amazing pyrotechnics and we have great some entertainment lined up while you wait for dusk to fall.
Bring your picnic blankets and camp chairs, find a spot in the south field of Claudette Cain Park, and get ready for what promises to be a fantastic show!
8pm: At the south entrance to the park, the RSCA will be selling glow bracelets and a collection of novelty glow and fibre optic items at a reasonable price to help defray the cost of the fireworks. Here a few of the fun items that will be available.

8:00-9:00pm: Live music by 10 Cent Wings on the main stage! The band covers a broad range of music including Kings of Leon, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Bruno Mars and much more

9:15-9:45pm: Get ready for the “deft fire-weaving skills, exquisite movements, and playful nature” of fire dancer Zola Molotov

10:00pm: Fireworks!

FYI…the wooded area around the gazebo between the north and south fields is blocked off as a safety perimeter around the fireworks staging area. If you are walking to the south field from the north end of the park, please take the path close to River Road. Though, for safety purposes, we encourage everyone to park at the plaza and cross at the traffic lights.
