Heart of Champions Youth/Adult Softball Tournament in support of CHEO Cardiology

Local Riverside South Family Spearheading Softball Tourney for CHEO:

Many of us learned about Congenital Heart Disease, in particular, the condition Tetralogy of Fallot with Pulmonary Atresia, when comedian Jimmy Kimmel recently shared the courageous story of his infant son in an emotional dialogue on television.

As the parents of an eight-year-old boy in our community, Heather and Graham Irvine have walked this same path with their child since his diagnosis of TOF/PA in utero. Logan has undergone three heart surgeries to date but thanks to CHEO is today a healthy and active child in our neighbourhood.

To date, the Irvine family and friends have raised over $80K to support local cardiac children including the purchase of a portable echocardiogram machine to aid in the earlier detection of cardiac issues and enhance cardiac care for children living in northern communities including Iqaluit.

Their next fundraising event will be held on Sat Aug 26th at Brewer Park (see enclosed poster for details). If you are looking for a fun activity for your children this summer to support a local family and give to CHEO this is it! This event is part of a larger fundraising initiative by Canadian Pacific’s CP Has Heart project where all monies raised will be matched up to $10K to aid in the renovation of CHEO’s outdated catheterization lab and intervention suite. Fun activities, prizes and the appearance of some special Superheroes will also be on hand at the event.

Special thanks to Charles Goodfellow, himself a cardiac patient at the Ottawa Heart Institute, who is a key sponsor and supporter of this event.
